Boston: First Glimpse

Ahh..I’ve always loved Boston..I loved it the first time I went there a year and a half ago and I still have a thing for her now..Can’t pinpoint what exactly it is but there’s just something crisp about this beautiful city. Could be the historic background..Could be all the gorgeous buildings which withstood disastrous fire and reconstruction..Or it could just be the magical feeling she exudes.

I wanted to start the first day of our adventure (ok, second..) by walking the historic Freedom Trail but somehow plans-not-turning-out-my-way seemed to be the theme here..We ended up going to Cambridge and taking one of the many trolleys that the city has to offer.

Now I usually don’t take trolleys, tour buses and all that stuff, not that I’m being kiamsiap (afraid of parting with my money)..It’s just that I feel the best way to truly enjoy and take in a place is to walk its streets, observe its people and simply breathe in the air at every corner. And I do this while studying my many maps and guides. This way, I’ll recognize every street that I’ve come across and remember it next time.

Nevertheless this time was different as we had my elderly granny with us in tow. I had to consider her poor feet..which are no longer apt to walk too long a distance since we’ll actually need to walk all the way across the bridge to the end of the trail..and then back..Hence the trolley it is!

I have to say it was indeed a refreshing experience. We could hop on and off the trolleys to the destinations that we wanted to stop and look at. Then hop back on to the next spot. Tourguides were also on deck to explain about some of the history behind the buildings we passed by on the way.

Back to the new plan, I decided to take them over to Cambridge first to see Harvard Yard where the renowned Harvard University is located. I can tell my mom really liked it there very much.

Of all the universities that we visited during the course of our trip, I think I still like Harvard the best. Oh and of course, I had to touch John Harvard’s golden toe for good luck!!
