Old Friend in Town

Haven't seen a really good friend of mine, Matt, in a long long time..In fact, since we last attempted to go clubbing in Atlanta June of last year. Well, I was still underaged then and we drove around Buckhead and downtown area to no avail. No bar would take us in, or rather me...=( So we ended up roaming endlessly around the metro area..

Anyways, Matt is back in Athens after a year in China. He wandered to the Ancient City after graduating last year and has been taking up Beijing by storm! haha..


I didn't feel good about abandoning my mom and grandma alone at home for the whole day, considering I had to run off to work in the middle of the day. So I decided to call lunch off and invited him home for a hearty meal instead. And boy was it good...


We, or rather my mom, whipped by Pork Loin with Mushroom with guidance from master chef granny. I just kinda gave the stew an occasional stir ^^ The pork and mushroom were so tender, moist and bursting with flava, they were just outta this world...We also had Asparagus stir-fry with Sambal Prawns. Another marvelous dish. And then there was Tofu drizzled with Minced Meat. I've gotta say, nothing beats a lovely home-cooked meal =)

And of course, Allie worked her wonders with the shakers as well. She made us some martinis. Mom had the same thing as me--Rum with O.J while the others indulged in the pleasantly evil Dirty Martinis.

My grandma started to chat with Matt in Chinese. It's amazing how much she learned about him in the little fraction of time while we got the food ready. She always complains how she doesn't know what to talk about with a stranger, but then she'll end up the one with the most to talk about and non-stop at that. That's just who she is =) Bubbly and cute!

The funny part was my grandma ended up having 3/4 of a glass of martini. She and mom got a tad drunk after awhile and had to excuse themselves to sneak in some dozing time.. It was hilarious watching them sashay up the stairs into bed =p


It was quite a chore getting Matt to smile a perfect one, it either came out too serious or too huge of a grin ^^ But he's great just the way he is! It's always remarkable to see a good friend. I never thought I would see him this soon again, but then again I'm extremely glad I did cuz who knows when we'll get to see each other again next time around...
